Cleopatra II Slot Review

Cleopatra II slot review: how IGT's 20-line sequel differs from Cleopatra, how the rising free spin multiplier works, and where to play it today.

Cleopatra II is IGT’s follow-up to its classic Cleopatra slot, and it plays very differently from the original. It is a 5-reel, 20-line game whose free spins bonus multiplies each win by the number of the spin you are on, so the later spins in a long bonus pay the most. It is a high-volatility game found on many casino floors, often in high limit rooms, and it is also offered online in some markets.

How Cleopatra II differs from Cleopatra

The two games share a name, an Egyptian theme and a scatter-triggered bonus, but little else. The first version of Cleo pays its free spins at a flat 3x. Cleopatra II replaces that with a multiplier that climbs every spin, which makes its bonus far more swingy: a short bonus can pay very little, while a long one can pay many times more than anything the original offers. Some players stick to one game and skip the other for exactly that reason.

Base game and line hits

Cleopatra II is a 20-line video slot. Cleopatra is the wild and the top-paying symbol, and a win that includes a Cleopatra wild is doubled. Horus is the best regular symbol, followed by Bastet, Anubis and decorated card symbols. Because Cleopatra substitutes for the other line symbols and doubles the result, many of the base game’s better hits come from a high symbol combined with a wild.

Line hits can be large, and a session with several good line hits can stay ahead even without a bonus. Still, the game is built around the free spins, so expect long stretches where the base game slowly drains your credits.

The Cleopatra II bonus

Three or more Sphinx scatters anywhere on the screen start the bonus. You pick one of three boxes to reveal how many free spins you get: 5 to 15 for three Sphinx, 8 to 18 for four and 10 to 20 for five.

The key rule is the rising multiplier. The first free spin pays 1x, the second 2x, the third 3x and so on. A win on the 10th spin pays ten times its normal value, so the late spins of a bonus usually decide how good it is.

Landing more Sphinx symbols during the bonus adds more spins, up to a maximum of 50, and the multiplier keeps climbing from where it was, so the 50th spin pays 50x. That retrigger is where Cleopatra II’s biggest wins come from: once the multiplier is in double digits, an ordinary line hit becomes a big payout.

Big wins and volatility

There are no progressive Cleopatra II machines. The big hits you see in handpay photos almost always come from a long, retriggered bonus. The flip side is that bonuses can be hard to land and often pay less than the bet you spent chasing them. Play it with a budget that can handle long losing runs.

High limit Cleopatra II

Cleopatra II is a regular in high limit slot rooms, where higher denominations turn its bonus into a large-stakes gamble. Lower-denomination versions are also on many main casino floors. On any machine, check the denomination and the max bet before you play, because a max bet on a multi-line game can be a large multiple of the denomination.

Playing Cleopatra II online

IGT offers Cleopatra II as an online slot, with an RTP of 95.89% and bets from $0.20 to $2,000 per spin, though each casino sets its own limits. In the US it is offered at state-licensed sites such as Caesars Palace Online Casino in New Jersey. Real-money online slots are legal only in states that have authorized online casino gaming, and each site chooses which IGT games to carry. Many review sites also offer a free demo.

Cleopatra II FAQ

How do you trigger the Cleopatra II bonus?

Land three or more Sphinx scatter symbols anywhere on the reels. You then pick a box to reveal between 5 and 20 free spins.

How does the Cleopatra II multiplier work?

Each free spin pays a multiplier equal to its number: 1x on the first spin, 2x on the second, and so on. Retriggers add spins, up to 50 in total, and the multiplier keeps rising.

Is Cleopatra II the same as Cleopatra?

No. The original pays free spins at 3x. Cleopatra II uses a rising multiplier, which makes it more volatile.

Does Cleopatra II have a progressive jackpot?

No. Its biggest wins come from long, retriggered bonuses.
