Learn the casino games
Blackjack
Try it if: You enjoy making decisions and learning a strategy.
In blackjack, you compete against the dealer to finish closer to 21 without going over. You decide when to hit, stand, double down, or split, and some tables also offer surrender.
Our guide explains card values, how hands unfold, and how to use basic strategy. You’ll also learn why a table paying 3:2 for blackjack deserves a closer look than one paying 6:5.

Craps
Try it if: You like dice, a lively table, and a shared game.
Craps looks complicated because the table offers so many bets. You can start with one: the Pass Line. Learn the come-out roll and the point, then explore other bets as you get familiar.
Our guide walks through a round, explains where to place your chips, and separates the main bets from the more expensive distractions.

Roulette
Try it if: You want a straightforward game with a range of payouts.
Choose a number, color, or group of numbers, place your chips, and wait for the ball to land. Red and black bets are easy to follow; individual numbers win less often but pay out more.
Our guide explains the layout, inside and outside bets, and why the wheel’s number of zeros matters.

Baccarat
Try it if: You want a card game without deciding how to play each hand.
In the common casino version, punto banco, you bet on Player, Banker, or a Tie. Fixed rules determine whether either hand receives another card. “Player” and “Banker” name the hands, so you can bet on either.
Our guide explains scoring, drawing rules, commissions, and the differences between the main bets.

Video poker
Try it if: You prefer playing at your own pace and choosing which cards to keep.
Video poker combines a machine interface with poker hands. You receive cards, choose which to hold and draw replacements. The final hand pays according to the displayed pay table.
Our guide starts with Jacks or Better and explains hand rankings, pay tables and why holding the right cards affects your return.

Which casino game should you learn first?
Choose based on the kind of play you enjoy. Simplicity, strategy and favorable odds are different considerations.

These are starting recommendations, not a ranking of which game will win you money. Rules, payouts and your choice of bets determine the mathematical cost.
Understand the odds before choosing a bet
Knowing how a game works is the first step. Knowing what its bets cost is the next.
House edge describes the casino’s average mathematical advantage. It does not tell you whether you’ll win the next hand or how much you’ll lose in one visit.
A game can offer both relatively inexpensive main bets and costly side bets. The rules matter, too: changing a blackjack payout or adding another zero to a roulette wheel changes the price of playing.

Before your first casino visit
A little preparation makes the table easier to navigate.
Bankrolls and table limits
The table minimum tells you the smallest allowed wager. Your session budget tells you what you can afford to spend. They need to work together, especially when a game lets you place extra wagers by splitting or doubling.
Learn how to choose a stake, read table limits, and set a spending boundary before play begins.

Casino etiquette
Know when to place a bet, how to buy chips, and which hand signals the dealer expects. Procedures vary by game, so ask the dealer for clarification rather than guessing.

Casino comps
Understand how casinos track play and award benefits such as meals, rooms or offers. A reward has value only if getting it does not require spending more than you intended.

Betting systems
Progression systems such as Martingale change your stake after wins or losses. They do not change the underlying probability or payout of a bet.
Learn how the systems work, what they risk and why a convincing sequence of small wins can hide exposure to a large loss.

Common questions about learning casino games
What are casino table games?
Casino table games include games such as blackjack, baccarat, craps and roulette, traditionally played with a dealer or table crew. Electronic and live online versions also exist. Video poker is usually a machine game, but belongs here because its rules and playing decisions are worth learning.
Which casino games involve strategy?
Blackjack and video poker involve decisions that affect expected results. In standard roulette, craps and baccarat, the main mathematical choice is which bet to make. A betting pattern does not improve the underlying odds.
Can I practice before betting real money?
Yes. Use a free practice game, a deck of cards or a walkthrough to learn the sequence of play. Practice helps with rules and decisions; a winning practice session does not predict a winning paid session.
Do casino games have the same rules everywhere?
No. Payouts, permitted actions and game variants can differ. Check the table sign, pay table or game information screen rather than assuming a familiar name means familiar rules.
Start with one game
You do not need to learn the entire casino floor. Choose a game, understand its main bet and check the rules before playing.
