Who makes Sphinx?
Sphinx 3D runs on the AXXIS cabinet originally developed by GTECH and was the first title in IGT’s True3D line. In July 2025, Apollo-managed funds completed their purchase of IGT’s gaming and digital business together with Everi, and the combined company operates under the IGT name.
How Sphinx 3D works
The selling point is the screen. Sphinx 3D shows its reels and bonus scenes in 3D on a 23-inch widescreen display, with a 39-inch portrait full HD screen below it. A built-in eye-tracking system follows the player’s position and keeps adjusting the image, so the depth effect holds even if you shift in your seat. No glasses are needed. The cabinet adds themed side panels, surround audio and an illuminated Sphinx head on top.
Under the 3D effect, it is a familiar 5-reel video slot with 30 lines, set in ancient Egypt.
Sphinx 3D bonus features
Sphinx 3D has seven bonus features in all. Two can hit in the base game. The other five sit inside the Sphinx Bonus, which you trigger by landing three Sphinx symbols in the base game. Inside the bonus you pick from the available features, and the number of features on offer grows with your bet, so a bigger wager gives you more choices when the bonus lands.
Sphinx 4D
IGT followed up with Sphinx 4D, which keeps glasses-free True3D graphics in ultra-HD and adds physical effects: mid-air haptic feedback, gesture recognition, enhanced surround sound and a movable chair with rumble. Seminole Hard Rock Tampa announced it as the first US casino to carry Sphinx 4D in November 2017.
Is Sphinx worth playing?
Sphinx is a game you play as much for the hardware as for the math. If you enjoy Egyptian slots, the 3D screen and the pick-your-bonus format make it stand out from flat-screen games, and it is a good one to try once to see what True3D looks like. Because the number of available bonus features rises with the bet, check the bet levels before you settle on a wager.
