The casino
El Tropical is part of the Hyatt Place Bayamón property, so the hotel is the natural base if you want to stay and play. Most of the gaming floor is given over to slot machines.
Puerto Rico is a US territory and uses the US dollar, so there is no currency exchange to think about if you are coming from the mainland. Visitors from other countries should bring US dollars or use a US-dollar card. Puerto Rico’s Gaming Commission, the Comisión de Juegos, licenses gaming machines on the island.
Table games
The table games pit is smaller than the slot floor. If you play roulette, check whether the wheel has a double zero (American roulette), because the house edge is higher than on a single-zero wheel. Table rules and minimums vary by table.
Slots and video poker
Slots make up most of the floor. To learn who builds the games you will see, read our guide to slot machine makers. If you are chasing bigger prizes, look for linked progressive jackpot slots, and read the help screen to see what bet a jackpot needs.
Hotel and getting there
The closest major airport is Luis Muñoz Marín International (SJU) in San Juan.
