MGM Rewards is the free loyalty program for MGM Resorts casinos in the US, and it is what M life Rewards became when MGM renamed and rebuilt the program on February 1, 2022. There are five tiers, from Sapphire to the invitation-only Noir, and you move up by earning tier credits from gambling, hotel stays and dining at MGM resorts. Gambling is by far the fastest route, because non-gaming spend earns 4 tier credits per dollar.

From M life to MGM Rewards
M life was MGM’s program until February 2022. The switch to MGM Rewards made the rules simpler but changed who benefits most:
- Non-gaming spend earns far fewer tier credits. M life gave 25 tier credits per $1 on Las Vegas hotel, dining and entertainment spend. MGM Rewards gives 4 tier credits and 1 point per $1 on eligible hotel and dining spend.
- Pearl got easier. The Pearl threshold fell from 25,000 to 20,000 tier credits.
- The currencies were renamed. Express Comps became MGM Rewards Points, and POINTPlay became Slot Dollars.
- Elite perks were added, such as waived resort fees on direct bookings from Gold up, and Las Vegas air travel credits at Platinum and Noir.
MGM Rewards tiers
Tier credits count from January 1 to December 31. Status you earn lasts through the end of the following benefit year, which closes on January 31. So status earned during 2026 runs to January 31, 2028.
| Tier | Tier credits needed | Slot Dollar bonus | Main perks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sapphire | None, granted at sign-up | None | Earn and redeem at participating resorts, member rates on direct bookings |
| Pearl | 20,000 | 10% | Free self-parking, points and Slot Dollars do not expire |
| Gold | 75,000 | 20% | Resort fees waived on up to two rooms booked direct, $100 Tier Celebration Credit, annual cruise for two |
| Platinum | 200,000 | 30% | 4 p.m. late checkout, suite upgrade, $200 Tier Celebration Credit, $600 Las Vegas air credit |
| Noir | Invitation only | 40% | $500 Tier Celebration Credit, $1,200 Las Vegas air credit, longer cruise benefit |
Pearl is the easiest status to reach without heavy play. Besides earning 20,000 tier credits, you get it automatically with the MGM Rewards World Elite Mastercard.
Gold is where the program starts to pay back for hotel guests, mainly through the resort fee waiver on direct bookings.
Noir is by invitation, and MGM does not publish what it takes to get one.
How you earn
MGM Rewards uses three balances, and it helps to keep them apart:
- Tier credits decide your tier. They cannot be spent.
- MGM Rewards Points are worth one cent each and can be used on rooms, dining, entertainment and other charges at participating resorts.
- Slot Dollars are free play for slot machines and video poker games. They are also worth one cent each, and Pearl and above earn a tier bonus on top.
Gambling
Slots, video poker and video lottery terminals earn Slot Dollars and tier credits when your card is in the machine. For table games such as blackjack and roulette, hand your card to the floor supervisor when you sit down. Your play is rated on time played, average bet and the game, and you earn points and tier credits from that rating. MGM does not publish its gaming earn rates, so check your account during a trip to see where you stand.
Play on BetMGM, in states where it operates, also earns MGM Rewards tier credits: one tier credit for each BetMGM Rewards point. BetMGM points can be converted into MGM Rewards points in the BetMGM Rewards store.
Since June 2025 you can also earn tier credits, points and Slot Dollars while gambling on participating Royal Caribbean and Celebrity ships, if you book an eligible MGM offer and give your MGM Rewards number when booking.
Hotel and dining
Every member earns 4 tier credits and 1 point per $1 on eligible hotel stays and dining at participating MGM resorts. Rooms booked through Marriott earn Marriott Bonvoy points instead, not both.
Here is what that means in practice. A guest who spends $6,000 on a room, food and drinks at an MGM resort earns 24,000 tier credits and 6,000 points, worth $60. That is enough for Pearl, but far short of Gold. Under M life, the same spend would have earned 150,000 tier credits.
Co-branded credit cards
There are two MGM Rewards credit cards: the MGM Rewards World Elite Mastercard, which has no annual fee and comes with Pearl status, and the MGM Rewards Iconic World Elite Mastercard, which has a $249 annual fee and earns more on MGM spend. Both earn MGM Rewards points and tier credits on purchases.
Where you can earn
MGM Rewards covers MGM’s US resorts. On the Las Vegas Strip that means ARIA and Vdara, Bellagio, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Luxor, New York-New York, Park MGM and Excalibur. Outside Las Vegas it includes Borgata in Atlantic City, Beau Rivage in Biloxi, MGM Grand Detroit, MGM National Harbor in Maryland, MGM Springfield in Massachusetts and Empire City in Yonkers, New York.
A few names that once belonged to the program are gone. Park MGM is the former Monte Carlo, renamed in 2018. MGM sold The Mirage to Hard Rock in December 2022, and the resort closed in July 2024 to be rebuilt. MGM also sold the operations of MGM Northfield Park in Ohio in April 2026, and it has agreed to sell MGM Springfield’s operations, so check before you plan a trip around either property.
Partners
- Marriott Bonvoy. MGM’s partnership with World of Hyatt ended in 2023, and Marriott took its place. MGM’s US resorts can be booked through Marriott as the MGM Collection. Pearl members and above can match to Marriott elite status, with Pearl matching to Silver Elite, Gold and Platinum to Gold Elite, and Noir to Ambassador Elite. Points transfer both ways at 10 Marriott Bonvoy points to 8 MGM Rewards points, with a 1,000-point minimum and a 30,000-point yearly cap each way.
- Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises. Members get onboard casino free play from $25 at Sapphire to $200 at Noir. Gold and above also get an annual cruise for two.
Tracking and redeeming
You can check tier credits, points and Slot Dollars in your MGM Rewards account online and at the rewards desk. It is a good habit to note your balances before a trip and again partway through, so you can spot anything that did not post.
Slot Dollars are redeemed at the machine. Points can be applied to room, dining and entertainment charges at participating resorts. For Sapphire members, points and Slot Dollars expire after six months with no account activity. For Pearl and above, and for MGM Rewards cardholders, they do not expire.
Is MGM Rewards worth it?
For a slot or video poker player who visits MGM resorts often, yes. It covers nine Las Vegas Strip casinos, Slot Dollar bonuses grow with your tier, and Gold removes resort fees on direct bookings. For guests who mostly stay, eat and see shows, it takes a lot of spending to get past Pearl. To compare, see our guides to Caesars Rewards, Wynn Rewards and how to earn comps.
