Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway is a regional casino beside the racetrack in Kansas City, Kansas, with slots, live table games, a poker room, and an on-site sportsbook. Its strongest draw is gaming variety and dining in one stop, especially for a Speedway-area outing. The main limitation for overnight visitors is the lack of an attached hotel. I see it as a good fit for a local casino evening or a stop during a Speedway trip, rather than a self-contained resort vacation.

Location and Property Overview

The name is quite literal: Hollywood sits beside the second turn of Kansas Speedway. It opened on February 3, 2012, and serves the Kansas side of the metropolitan area. This is not downtown Kansas City, Missouri, a distinction worth getting right before booking a room or arranging transportation.
The surrounding Speedway and Village West area offers shopping, restaurants, sporting events, and separate hotels. Those are neighboring destinations, not connected casino-resort amenities. I would think of Hollywood as the gambling portion of an outing, with the flexibility to stay for dinner or go elsewhere.

Casino Floor and Games
The Kansas Lottery’s January 15, 2026, testimony reported 1,540 slot machines, 32 pit table games, and 12 poker tables at Hollywood. These are dated inventory figures, not a promise that every machine or table will be available when you arrive.
Slots and Video Poker
Slots are a major reason to consider Hollywood. The reported inventory gives machine players plenty to browse, although a large count does not guarantee your favorite title, denomination, or video-poker pay table.
My advice is to check the total wager before getting comfortable. A low denomination can still produce an expensive spin once the game’s betting requirements are included. For video poker, inspect the pay table rather than choosing by the game’s name alone.
And skip the idea that a machine is due. Neither its recent results nor another player’s losing session tells you that a jackpot is coming.
Table Games and Minimum Bets
The official gaming page lists blackjack, roulette, craps, Crapless Craps, baccarat, Mississippi Stud, Ultimate Texas Hold’em, High Card Flush, Face Up Pai Gow, and Three Card Poker. A listed game is not necessarily open at every hour.
Walk the pit before buying in. Check the posted minimum and, at blackjack, the payout and other rules. I would rather spend a few minutes choosing a table than discover after sitting down that its rules or required wager do not suit my budget.
How Hollywood Compares with Other Kansas Casinos
Using inventories in the same January 2026 testimony, Hollywood had 265 more reported slot machines than Kansas Star. Kansas Star, however, had 10 more reported non-poker table games. Hollywood also had a larger reported slot inventory than either Kansas Crossing or Boot Hill.
That is a comparison of gaming emphasis, not a statewide itinerary recommendation: these casinos serve different parts of Kansas. Hollywood looks particularly substantial on slots, while Kansas Star’s larger table inventory is worth noting for table players. Neither comparison establishes payouts, open tables, minimums, or service.
Gamboool original analysis
We assembled the comparison below from published information and our calculations. These are selected examples, rather than measured gambling sessions or a representative survey.

| Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway: Gaming inventory reported in January 15, 2026, Kansas Lottery testimony | The testimony lists 1,540 slot machines, 32 pit table games, and 12 poker tables, separating live poker inventory from pit games. |
| Kansas Star Casino: Comparison gaming inventory in the same January 15, 2026, testimony | Kansas Star is listed with 1,275 active slot machines and 42 table games, providing a dated comparison with Hollywood’s larger slot inventory and smaller pit inventory. |

| Kansas lottery casino sportsbooks, including Hollywood: Retail versus mobile wagering availability documented in January 15, 2026, testimony | All four lottery gaming facility managers are documented as offering both mobile wagering and in-person retail wagering; this does not establish betting-window hours. |
| Calculation | Result | Takeaway |
|---|---|---|
| Dining credit from an illustrative $10.00 PENN Cash redemption | $20.00 in dining credit | The published dining conversion stretches an existing rewards balance at participating outlets; confirm eligibility before ordering. |
| PENN Cash needed for an illustrative $40.00 eligible dining charge | 20 PENN Cash dollars required | Use the dining conversion to check whether an existing rewards balance can cover your eligible meal rather than budgeting rewards at face value. |
| Hollywood versus Kansas Star: reported slot-machine inventory difference | 265 slot machines | Hollywood had the larger reported slot inventory in this dated comparison, but machine count does not establish better payouts or availability of a particular game. |
| Kansas Star versus Hollywood: reported non-poker table inventory difference | 10 table games | The reported inventory comparison favors Kansas Star for non-poker table count, not necessarily for open tables, lower minimums, or better rules. |

Method: Published inputs collected 2026-10-16. Illustrative assumptions are labeled, and the full calculation inputs remain in the saved research record. These examples support planning; they do not predict a particular session.
Poker Room
Hollywood has a dedicated live poker room. The state testimony lists 12 poker tables, separate from its pit games. The number running depends on the room’s schedule and player turnout.
If poker is the whole reason for your drive, contact the room first. Ask which games and stakes are running, whether there is a waiting list, and whether a tournament fits your arrival time. Room capacity is not the same thing as an available seat in your preferred game.
Retail Sportsbook
Hollywood has an on-property retail sportsbook. The January 2026 testimony documents in-person wagering and lists theScore as Hollywood’s retail provider in reporting through December 31, 2025. That reporting name is not a guarantee of current signage.
Check betting-service hours separately from casino hours. If you place a paper-ticket wager, read the redemption instructions before leaving and keep the ticket safe. Do not assume a retail ticket can be redeemed through a mobile account.
Hotel and Overnight Stays
Hollywood does not have an attached casino hotel. Overnight visitors need separate lodging in the surrounding area.
That is the biggest planning difference between Hollywood and a casino resort. A nearby hotel may work perfectly well, but consider the journey back, particularly if you plan to drink. Do not assume a shuttle, casino discount, or walking route comes with the reservation.
I would compare the complete overnight cost: room, transportation, parking arrangements, and cancellation terms. A slightly cheaper room is not necessarily the better choice if getting back becomes the awkward part of the evening.
Restaurants and Bars
The official dining page names Marquee Cafe, Turn 2 Sports Bar and Restaurant, Pit Stop, and Final Cut as online takeout-ordering options. Having several food choices without leaving the property is a practical advantage.
Final Cut is the option to investigate for a planned sit-down dinner, while Marquee Cafe and Turn 2 are starting points for a more casual meal. Check menus, opening days, and reservation arrangements before deciding.
For a late visit, I would settle the food question before the gambling question. An all-night casino does not necessarily have a full kitchen serving all night.
Using PENN Cash for Dining
The dining page advertises $2.00 in eligible dining credit for each $1.00 in PENN Cash at participating destinations. That makes an existing rewards balance worth examining before paying for a meal.
- An illustrative $10.00 PENN Cash redemption would provide $20.00 in eligible dining credit.
- An illustrative $40.00 eligible dining charge would require $20.00 in PENN Cash at that conversion.
These are arithmetic examples, not menu prices or quoted meal bills. Check participating outlets, taxes, gratuities, and exclusions before ordering. The sensible use is to stretch rewards you already have, not gamble more to earn dinner.
Directions, Parking, and Visit Planning
The casino is near I-70 and I-435 on the western side of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Enter its full street address into navigation rather than simply searching for Kansas Speedway.
Covered parking is a documented amenity, but that does not establish a particular parking price or race-day arrangement. When a major event is taking place nearby, allow extra time and follow posted access directions.
The trackside location is useful if the Speedway is already part of your trip. It is less compelling if most of your plans are in the city center. I would choose based on the rest of the itinerary, not just the casino name.
For soccer outings, Sporting Kansas City’s parking guide lists a shuttle between Hollywood Casino and Sporting Park, operating from two hours before scheduled kickoff until one hour after the final whistle. Casino pickup and drop-off are at the front entrance. Check the arrangements for your match before planning dinner and soccer around the ride.
Age, Smoking, and Budget
You must be at least 21 to gamble. Bring valid government-issued photo identification.
Smoking is permitted in portions of the casino. If smoke is a deal-breaker, make that part of your property choice rather than assuming a nonsmoking section will feel like a completely smoke-free building.
Keep your gambling bankroll separate from meals, drinks, transportation, and lodging. Check ATM fees before withdrawing cash, and set a stopping point before playing. A table minimum tells you the smallest wager, not the cost of the evening.
PENN Play Rewards
Hollywood participates in PENN Play. The official property website promotes the PENN Play app and advertises a $25.00 dining credit for eligible new members who sign up and register for the app. Outlet participation and offer terms apply, so check eligibility before counting on it.
Ask how earning and redemption work for your planned activities. Do not assume slots, tables, poker, dining, and sports betting all earn benefits on identical terms.
Who Is Hollywood Casino Best For?
Hollywood makes the most sense for Speedway visitors and Kansas City-area players who want slots, live poker, sports betting, and dinner in one stop. Its trackside setting and covered parking give it practical appeal for a casino evening, but separate lodging and individual venue schedules require planning. I would shortlist it for gaming variety on the Kansas side, while travelers prioritizing an attached hotel, a smoke-free setting, or a central-city base should choose another property.
