Chile casinos are legal, licensed and run under national rules: the Superintendencia de Casinos de Juego (SCJ) oversees 25 land-based casinos, and the biggest operators are the Dreams, Enjoy and Marina del Sol groups. Online casinos are a different story. Chile has no licence for them, the Supreme Court ruled in September 2025 that unlicensed betting sites operate illegally, and a bill to regulate online gambling is still before Congress.

How casinos are licensed in Chile
Law 19.995 sets the rules for casinos and created the SCJ, which grants operating permits through competitive tenders, inspects casinos and collects data on the industry. Permits are issued for a fixed term, so casinos change hands from time to time when licences come up for renewal and cities are put out to tender again.
A small number of casinos still run under older municipal concessions rather than Law 19.995. According to the SCJ’s 2025 statistics, 22 casinos operated under Law 19.995 and 3 under municipal concessions, for 25 in total.
Chile’s casino market in numbers
The SCJ’s 2025 figures give a clear picture of the land-based market:
- Gross gaming revenue of about 549 billion Chilean pesos (roughly US$577 million) across all 25 casinos
- About 6.3 million visits
- About US$204 million in taxes paid by the Law 19.995 casinos, including the specific gaming tax, VAT and the entry tax
- Revenue at the 22 Law 19.995 casinos fell 4.5% in real terms compared with 2024
Biggest casinos in Chile
By gaming revenue, the three largest casinos in 2025 were:
- Dreams Monticello, in San Francisco de Mostazal, south of Santiago, by far the largest casino in the country
- Enjoy Viña del Mar, the best-known casino on the coast and a landmark of the resort city
- Marina del Sol Talcahuano, near Concepción
Other casinos are spread across regional cities and resort towns, from Iquique and Antofagasta in the north to Temuco, Pucón and Punta Arenas in the south. Opening hours, games and entry rules are set by each casino, so check with the one you plan to visit before you go.

Online gambling and sports betting in Chile
Law 19.995 covers land-based casinos only, and Chile has never created a licence for online gambling or private online sports betting. Even so, many foreign betting and casino sites have marketed heavily to Chilean players.
On September 30, 2025, the Third Chamber of Chile’s Supreme Court ruled that online betting platforms have no legal authorization to operate in Chile and ordered internet providers to block access to them. In practice, blocked operators have often moved to new domains, so many sites are still reachable.
A bill to regulate online betting has been in Congress for several years. In October 2026 it was in its second reading in the Senate, where the government and senators were still filing amendments. The proposals on the table range from licensing and taxing operators to keeping online betting banned and adding tougher penalties and permanent court-ordered blocking of illegal sites. Until a law is passed, there is no Chilean licence that protects players on online casino sites, and players have no local regulator to turn to in a dispute.
