Casino Cosmopol Göteborg is closed. Svenska Spel, the Swedish state-owned gaming company that ran it, decided in January 2024 to shut its Göteborg and Malmö casinos because of weak profits and falling visitor numbers, and both closed in 2024. There is no casino operating at the site today.

What Casino Cosmopol Göteborg Was
Casino Cosmopol was the brand of Sweden’s state-run casinos, with venues in Sundsvall, Malmö, Göteborg and Stockholm. The Göteborg casino opened at the end of August 2002 in the old Customs House at Packhusplatsen, near the river in the city center. It offered table games, slot machines, poker, a restaurant and a bar. All of the chain’s profit went to the Swedish state.
Why It Closed
On January 24, 2024, the Svenska Spel board decided to close the casinos in Göteborg and Malmö because of poor profitability and declining attendance. The decision affected about 120 staff in Göteborg and 80 in Malmö. The Sundsvall casino had already closed in 2020.
That left only Casino Cosmopol Stockholm. In spring 2025 the Swedish parliament approved ending Svenska Spel’s right to run physical casinos, and the Stockholm casino closed for good on April 25, 2025. Casino Cosmopol no longer operates any casino.
