Peru casinos and slot halls are legal when they hold an authorization from the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR), which licenses and inspects them. Online casino games and sports betting have been regulated too since Law 31557 took effect on February 9, 2024, and the government blocks betting sites that operate without a Peruvian licence. Land-based casinos and slot halls

Peru’s casino law, Law 27153, dates from July 1999. It regulates casino games and slot machines, bars minors from gaming rooms and created a monthly tax on gaming revenue. The law has been amended since, and MINCETUR’s General Directorate of Casino Games and Slot Machines (DGJCMT) now authorizes, supervises and sanctions operators.

Many venues are slot halls (salas de tragamonedas) rather than full casinos. Licensed casinos also deal table games. If you plan to play, our guides cover the rules of roulette, blackjack, baccarat, Caribbean stud poker and craps, along with other table games.

Enforcement against unlicensed venues is active. In 2026 MINCETUR reported 5,195 inspections of slot and casino halls, and it has closed clandestine slot and betting venues in several regions. Stick to venues that display their MINCETUR authorization.

Online casinos and sports betting

For years online gambling in Peru sat in a gray area. That ended with Law 31557, which regulates remote games and remote sports betting. The law was amended by Law 31806 in May 2023, its rules were set by Supreme Decree 005-2023-MINCETUR, and it took effect on February 9, 2024. In the first 30 days, MINCETUR received 145 applications for operator licences.

Only licensed operators may offer online casino games or sports betting to people in Peru. MINCETUR works with the Ministry of Transport and Communications to block unlicensed platforms. By early October 2026 it had blocked 86 such platforms in 2026, out of 157 slated for blocking that year, and its DGJCMT keeps a base of about 2,000 domains flagged as illegal by authorities in other countries. Peru’s Penal Code provides prison sentences of one to four years for people who promote or take part in illegal gambling.

Peru and its neighbors

Peru has both a licensed land-based market and a licensed online market, which is not true of all its neighbors. Countries nearby with their own guides include Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia and Brazil, where casinos are banned. Slot fans can also read about makers such as Light & Wonder, formerly Scientific Games.
