Theme and symbols
The game sticks to classic Chinese imagery: a gold inscription on a red background, tortoises, blue vases, paper lanterns and old coins. Wins pay left to right. The gold inscription is the top symbol at 1,000 coins for five on a line, followed by the tortoise at 500 coins and the vase and lanterns at 250 coins each. The playing card symbols from 9 to A make up the smaller wins.
The wild, a mysterious lady, appears on reels 2 through 5 and substitutes for the regular symbols to complete lines.
China Mystery free games
Free games are the heart of China Mystery. In the online version, three ancient coin scatters start the bonus, where wins during the free spins are boosted by a multiplier. The game also offers a choice at the start of the feature, letting you take a coin prize instead of playing the free spins.
The feature can build to as many as 450 free spins in total, and it is where most big China Mystery wins come from.
Is China Mystery worth playing?
China Mystery does not have the pick bonuses, wheel spins or shared jackpots of many newer slot machines. Its appeal is the opposite: a simple game where the base game and a generous free games feature do all the work. If you like straightforward Asian-themed slots, it is a good fit. If you want constant features and animations, newer games will suit you better.
Where to play China Mystery
Availability on casino floors varies, since casinos replace older titles over time. Online versions are offered at some US sites, and free demo versions are easy to find. If you play for real money, use an online casino licensed in your state; offshore sites are not licensed by US state regulators.
