China Shores is a Konami video slot played on five reels and three rows with 30 paylines. Its two draws are the stacked symbols that fill blocks of the reels before every spin and a free games round where every win pays double. It was built for casino floors and is also offered at licensed online casinos in regulated US states.

How China Shores plays
The game follows a Chinese theme, with a panda as its wild symbol. Most combinations need three matching symbols on a payline, while the top-paying symbols also pay for two of a kind.
The panda is the only wild. It lands on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5, never on reel 1, and stands in for the regular symbols in the base game.
The main base-game feature is the stacked symbols. Before each spin, a group of adjacent positions on the reels is filled with one symbol, either a regular symbol or the bonus scatter. When that block lands across several reels, a single spin can cover many paylines with the same symbol, which is where most of the bigger base-game hits come from.
China Shores free games bonus
Land three, four or five bonus scatters on a payline in the base game to start the free games round:
- 3 scatters: 8 free games
- 4 scatters: 10 free games
- 5 scatters: 15 free games
Every win during the free games is doubled, and the round can be retriggered, so more free games can be added while it runs. In the online version the trigger also pays a small credit award, and the player can choose a random cash prize instead of playing the free games.
Versions and sequels
Konami has since built several follow-ups on the same theme, including China Shores Quad Spin, China Shores with Quick Strike and China Shores Boosted Great Stacks. They add their own bonus and jackpot features, so check the help screens before assuming a cabinet with the China Shores name plays like the original. Konami’s other Asian-themed titles include China Mystery, and for linked jackpot games in general, see our guide to progressive jackpots.
Playing China Shores online
Konami has released China Shores for real-money play at licensed online casinos in regulated US states, including Borgata Online, and at regulated sites in Canada such as PlayAlberta. The online game uses the same 5×3, 30-line layout, panda wild, stacked symbols and doubled free games as the cabinet version. Real-money online casino play is legal in only a handful of US states, and free-play versions of the game are also available. Our hub covers online casinos, and the slot machine section has more cabinet guides.
