Theme and symbols
“Fu dao le” means “good fortune has arrived,” and the game leans on familiar luck symbols: red envelopes, gold coins, lanterns, fish and fruit, alongside card ranks for the lower pays. The Wonus symbol, an ornate green character, is the bonus trigger.
There are no paylines to choose. Matching symbols on adjacent reels from left to right pay wherever they land, which gives 243 possible ways to win on every spin. Like most penny-denomination video slots, it is a volatile game, and much of its return comes from the features.
Fu Dao Le features
Expanding wilds
Wilds appear in stacks on reel 3. When a partial stack lands, it nudges up or down to fill the whole reel, which can connect wins across the screen. The stacked wilds do not substitute for the Wonus or the red envelopes.
Free games bonus
Three or more Wonus symbols anywhere start the bonus, which pays 2x your total bet and awards free games at the bet that triggered it. During the free games, the Wonus itself becomes wild, some wilds carry a 2x or 3x multiplier that applies to any win they complete, and the feature can retrigger.
Red envelope prize
Before a base game spin, one red envelope can be added to reel 1 and a second to reel 5, which triggers the Red Envelope Jackpot. It is available at any bet level, and the prize is scaled to your bet.
Jackpot bonus
In the base game, a full stack of wilds on reel 3 can randomly start the jackpot bonus at any bet level. You pick coins until three matching jackpot symbols appear, and that jackpot is paid. On many casino-floor versions the jackpots are progressive, so check the machine’s top glass or help screen for current amounts and any bet requirements.
How long the bonuses take
Fu Dao Le’s features are quick. The free games usually wrap up within a minute or two unless they retrigger, and the jackpot pick moves as fast as you tap. The game suits players who like frequent small events rather than long bonus rounds.
Where to play Fu Dao Le
Fu Dao Le sits on casino floors alongside other Asian-themed slot games from Light & Wonder. A follow-up, Fu Dao Le Riches, has also reached casino floors.
The online version, released in 2014, is offered by some state-licensed casinos that carry Light & Wonder games, in states that allow online casino gaming. The online version keeps the main features of the casino machine, though bet options and return can differ, and many sites offer a free demo. Offshore sites listed in our online casino reviews are not licensed by US state regulators, so check what a site is licensed for before you play.
