Theme and symbols

Dancing Drums leans hard on Chinese New Year imagery: red and gold everywhere, drums, gold coins, pots, flowers and jade dragons, plus the Fu Babies characters that appear in the jackpot bonus. The number 8 shows up throughout, starting with the 88-cent minimum bet online, because 8 is a lucky number in Chinese culture.

Wins pay left to right on adjacent reels, so there are no paylines to select. A wild symbol substitutes for regular symbols, and the drum scatter triggers the free games.

Free games: pick your volatility

Three scatters start the free games bonus, and the choice you make next decides how the feature plays. Each option trades the number of spins against the size of the grid:

Option Free spins Grid Ways to win
1 15 5×3 243
2 10 5×4 1,024
3 5 5×5 3,125
4 3 5×6 7,776
Mystery 3 to 15 Random Up to 7,776

The 15-spin option gives steadier, smaller results. The 3-spin, 7,776-ways option is all or nothing: three spins can produce very little, but a full screen of matching symbols on six rows pays far more than anything on the 5×3 grid. The bonus can be retriggered by landing more scatters during the free spins.

The Fu Babies jackpot bonus

Four fixed jackpots sit above the reels. They are won only in the Fu Babies bonus, which can start on a base-game spin when a wild lands. You pick from 12 gold coins until three of the same jackpot match, and that jackpot is paid. The top jackpot is worth about 1,135 times your total bet, which works out to roughly $250,000 at the $220 maximum.

Because the jackpots are fixed multiples of your bet rather than shared progressives, a smaller bet still qualifies for the bonus. It just pays a smaller amount.

Online and land-based versions

The online game follows the casino machine closely, but the two are not identical. Bet options can differ, and the RTP of a land-based machine is set by each casino within the limits its regulator allows, so it can differ from the online figure.

Light & Wonder has built a whole family of land-based follow-ups on the original, including Dancing Drums Explosion, Dancing Drums Prosperity, Dancing Drums Link and Dancing Drums Dragon. Dancing Drums Explosion adds a Fu Babies Gold bonus with bigger jackpots, and a Dancing Drums Explosion machine at 4 Bears Casino in North Dakota paid a jackpot of more than $1.6 million in 2022.

Where to play Dancing Drums

Dancing Drums machines are common in casinos across the US, often in banks with its sequels. Online, the game is offered by several state-licensed casinos in states that allow online casino gaming, such as BetMGM and DraftKings. It is also available in free-play demo form on many sites, which is the easiest way to try the free games options before betting real money.
